Frequently asked questions
How are you different from a physiotherapist, osteopath or chiropractor?
Both Bowen Therapy and Myofascial Release Therapy do not use manipulation, adjustments, equipment or any oils or lotions. We also take a whole body approach, which means we don’t just work on the injured area. Bowen Therapy can be administered through light, unrestrictive clothing and has those very important frequent rests during the session.
How often do I have to have treatment?
You should have at least 5 - 7days rest between any forms of treatment to let your body recover. This also helps so you don’t give your body too much information to process while it is in repair/recovery mode.
What should I wear?
Please wear light clothing to your appointment e.g. no jeans, no woollen jumpers, and no smooth or silky tops. Bowen Therapy is unique in that we are able to administer the therapy through light, unrestrictive clothing. Myofascial Release Therapy is performed directly onto the skin, and we do have blankets for your comfort.
How soon after an injury can I have treatment?
Straight away or as soon as possible. In fact the sooner the better as you are more likely to recover quicker. Both therapies can also help relieve the inflammation, stress and anxiety from being injured as well.
How many treatments will I need?
Usually only a few treatments are required. The old or more complicated issues can sometimes need more sessions. We always listen to your feedback, so if you are feeling great, we aren’t going to keep you coming in for treatment.
Does it hurt?
No, the therapies do not hurt. They are quite gentle. There is a pressure used, but this can be changed to suit your needs.
I'm pregnant, can I still have Bowen Therapy?
Most definitely. It can help with all aches and pains associated with pregnancy. Bowen Therapy can also help with turning your baby. Lying down while pregnant can be uncomfortable, so we can help while you are on your side or sitting up. Please advise us if you are pregnant, as your safety is always a priority.
Can I use Bowen or Myofascial Release as my post surgery care/therapy?
Yes. you can. Please make sure you have checked with your surgeon/doctor that you are cleared so you are able to have bodywork done. In fact this is a great alternative as we treat your body as a whole unit, which can help with other aches and pains associated after surgery. Also Myofascial Release Therapy can help greatly with softening and lightening any scar tissue.
My injury is old. I've had this issue for years. Can you still help me after all this time?
Yes, most definitely. You might find that you need a few more session times, but we can certainly help.
Are you ACC registered?
